On May 9, 2015, Mesquite ISD residents approved the district's $280 million bond package with 77 percent of the vote.

 

Construction, Technology and Growth

Many of the district's schools are decades old. The 2015 bond package is fund maintenance and repairs such as replacing old carpet; improving structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; and repairing or replacing roofing.

Some older campuses are being rebuilt to create safer, larger, more modern buildings that will serve more students.

Having modern technology in the classroom is vital to preparing students for a globally competitive business environment.

Bond funds are allowing the district to improve its wireless network, upgrade its technology infrastructure and purchase digital tools that will enhance the classroom environment and support 21st century skills such as problem-solving, creativity and collaboration.

Mesquite ISD is growing by 400 to 800 students — enough to fill an elementary school — each year. A recent demographic study estimates that the district could add more than 5,000 additional students by 2021.
