What is the Strategic Planning Committee?

The Strategic 50—what we call our strategic planning committee—is a group of educators, parents, students and other representatives from our community and local businesses helped brainstorm and set the framework of our plan objectives and strategies. This fall, even more volunteers will join this cause and help us create our action steps. Below are details on our strategic plan, which is expected to be in place by the start of 2017. Strategic Planning Process

In the fall of 2015, Mesquite ISD embarked upon a new strategic planning process to develop a 5-year plan for the district. The process includes four phases. Phase I is currently under way and near completion. Here are the four phases and the actions involved in each phase of the process:

Phase I

Board establishes beliefs, vision and categorical framework.

Strategic Planning Team established.

2-day retreat held; mission, strategic objectives, and strategies are developed. (May 19-20, 2016)

Progress reported to Board of Trustees (June 2016)

Phase II

Action Teams formed (1 team per strategy); superintendent assigns action team leaders and team members (usually 10-15 memebers)

Action Teams work independently for 2 to 3 months developing action plans to support the assigned strategy.

Phase III

Action Team Leaders present action plans to Strategic Planning Committee at a 1-day retreat.

Strategic Planning Committee can accept the action plans as presented or sent back to the Action Teams for more work.

Once all action plans are accepted, the Board of Trustees approves the Strategic Plan.

Phase IV

Superintendent assigns action plans to specific years to begin implementation

Superintendent assigns action plan ownership to specific administrators

Accountability system is developed.
