Mesquite ISD Foundation Grants $275,000 to Schools, District

The Mesquite ISD Education Foundation recently awarded its first round of campus and district grants and initiatives.  The Foundation presented checks totaling $275,000 to fund projects ranging from technology- enhanced instruction and innovative reading programs to specialized tutoring and student leadership training.

Foundation Board and Committee members traveled the district March 27-30 on a school bus presenting giant checks, balloons and candy to surprised students and teachers.  The person who submitted the grant proposal, along with students and campus administrators, accepted the check.

“The Foundation is extremely proud and honored to be in the position to fund so many worthwhile grants in just our first year,” said Foundation Board President David Belt.  “The smiles on the faces of the students and teachers as we visited the schools presenting checks was truly special.”

Foundation Board Vice President of Development Evelyn Williams was also touched by the responses of several elementary schools.  “These grants will have an immediate and lasting effect on so many students by providing great programs that would otherwise not be possible.”

The majority of the campus awards were in the category of Campus Initiatives.  These individual awards totaled nearly $60,000.  In addition, more than $15,000 was awarded to secondary campuses under Campus Student Leadership Development Grants.  The remaining money was awarded in the category of District Initiatives, providing funding for a variety of programs spanning several campuses.

“The success of the Foundation is a reflection of the commitment the Mesquite community places on quality education,” added Mr. Belt.  “We were able to fund these grants thanks to the generous contributions of MISD employees, community members and partners.  With their continued support, the Foundation hopes to fund grants and initiatives annually.”
