ENGLISH
Mrs. Morris
Conference 11:37-12:20
For the first time since fourth grade, we are tested
again in writing on TAKS; consequently, we will spend
a large percentage of our time writing this year. For
the first six weeks, we will be working on personal
narratives. Students will be writing a story about a
memory they have. We have done prewriting and drafting,
so now we’re doing a plethora of activities to
learn ways to revise our papers. Another focus this
year is vocabulary. We have several word walls for students
to use. The word walls will not only be present on the
wall, but each child will have a portable word wall
for their binders. Please encourage your child to take
a risk and expand his/her vocabulary. Vocabulary homework
is assigned on a weekly basis. Check with your child
to see that he/she has completed his/her assignment
and is ready for the quiz on Fridays.
HISTORY
Coach Fizell
Conference 10:09-11:01
This six weeks Team
7-2 Aggie historians will be studying the geography
of Texas, Native Texan, which most people call Native
Americans or Indians, and European explorers. Be sure
your child is reading the first five chapters in the
social studies book this six weeks.
MATH
MS. ROLAND
Conference 1:38-2:30
Aggie math students are working hard already. We kicked
off the school year with exponents, as we worked using
squares and square roots. Students now understand what
it takes to create a perfect square, as we have modeled
this using pictures as well as real world situations.
More recently we have conquered comparing and ordering
integers using a counting method and also a number line
method. To extend our study of integers, students will
be asked to create a time line of events that have occurred
before, and throughout their own lives, modeled with
integers on a number line. This will allow not only
me to get to know my students better, but the students
will learn about each other as well. We have extended
our study of integers as we have begun adding and subtracting
them, using various methods. Soon we will be multiplying
and dividing them as well. After our study of integers,
we will move right along to writing and solving numerical
expressions. Students are given homework every night,
except for Friday nights, and usually have time in class
to get it started. If they are having trouble with the
homework once they get home, please encourage them to
come to tutoring. Tutoring takes place Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday mornings at 7:30 on the cafeteria stage.
READING
MRS. TAYLOR
Conference 8:15-9:07
Q: What does a Reading class have in common with a dentist's
office?
A: It's like pulling teeth to get most seventh graders
to read a book!
Fortunately for your seventh grader the only thing my
classroom has in common with your dentist's office is
that I have a nice selection of magazines for my students
to read. My hope is that your student has come home
telling you the ways in which they are the main character
in their own life story. I've been learning about each
of my students in four ways: their thoughts, feelings,
actions and conversations. These are the same four concepts
they have been exploring about the characters from the
stories we are reading in class. Your student's vocabulary
should be growing and my goal is for you to be thoroughly
confused at the end of the year by a normal conversation
with your seventh grader because of his/her elaborate
word usage.
SCIENCE
Mrs. Kelley
Conference 12:43-1:35
This six weeks Team 7-2 Aggie Scientists will be engaging
in a Thematic Unit called Bound for Belize! The students
will be busy investigating, exploring, and learning
exciting information. We are gearing up and preparing
for our future dissections and computer lab activities.
