About Our School

Florence Elementary was opened in 1965 and was considered the "show school" for that generation of schools. Our student body consists of approximately 600 students in pre-kindergarten through 6th grade with the majority of students living within walking distance of the school. One third of these students participate in our bilingual education classes. In recent years our school has had several renovations to keep it up-to-date with the newer schools. Internet wiring has been installed in each classroom and a state of the art telephone system links our school to every other MISD campus and administrative office. Our computer lab has been updated with iMacs (Tiger), and all classroom teachers have an eMac as their primary use computer. Most classrooms have additional iMacs for student use and practice.

At Florence Elementary we have many caring, dedicated teachers. Our teachers are actively increasing their knowledge and skills as life-long learners, not only in their area of expertise, but also in technological advances that are rapidly changing the world of education. Their enthusiasm and love for children carries over into their classrooms as they love, teach, and encourage all students to succeed to their full potential in everything that they do.
