Why the Hanby Huskies?

Husky characteristics are very much like the character traits we encourage in our students.  These beautiful animals are intelligent, hard working, curious, affectionate, loyal, eager, determined, friendly, gentle and cooperative, and wouldn't it be great if we could describe our students in these same terms?

Building on the concept of team membership helps our students learn to support and cheer for the members of their team, and we have been able to expand this concept from small group activities to classrooms to campus-wide to community teamwork.  There couldn't be a more obvious connection for children than the one found in the story about Balto and the commitment of the team to achieve a goal.  Once the connection is made for the students, they are

eager to become a part of the team.

Membership is important to children.  Their need to belong to something, anything, greater than themselves surfaces at a young age, which is why gangs have such appeal for youth.  For the Hanby students, being part of our Husky Team seems to help them identify with the positive character traits of our group and we all belong so - we pull together!

Hanby School Song

We're the Hanby Huskies,
Loyal through and through.
Working together
To be a mighty school.

Huskies never wonder
If the road is long.
We'll help each other
So the team is strong.

We're the Hanby Huskies
Put us to the test,
We'll be on top 'cuz
Huskies are the BEST!

Hanby Pledge

We have the right to learn something new every day,
and the responsibility to be respectful and do our best.

We have the right to be true to ourselves,
and the responsibility to be kind, fair, and honest with others.

We have the right to be safe,
and the responsibility to solve problems peacefully.
