The Planets
The planets Jupiter and Venus are the eastern "Morning Stars" for the month of March. Jupiter is above and to the right of Venus.
Before sunrise, see if you can spot faint Mercury slightly above and to the right of Venus. You may need binoculars.
Saturn is setting in the west at sunrise.
Mars is found high in the south early evenings through out the month.
The Moon
First Quarter: March 14
Full Moon: March 21
Last Quarter: March 29
Constellation of the Month: Leo the Lion
Leo is one of the brightest spring constellations. According to a Greek myth, Leo fell to earth like a shooting star. The huge lion immediately began to eat people and livestock, so Hercules tried to kill Leo. Unfortunately, arrows just bounced off the lion's tough hide. Even Hercules' sword had no effect on the lion. Finally, Hercules cornered the lion and choked him to death. He skinned the lion and, using stars as nails, placed Leo in the sky.
How to find Leo: Around 9:30 p.m. Leo will be high in the east. Look for a curve of stars forming a "backwards question mark." This forms the head of Leo.
