Reading
1.
An SAT word, part of speech, defintion, and sentence with correct
usage are put on the TV screen daily. The teachers are incorporating
this into their daily lessons i.e. word wall, word journals, etc
(ELA/Reading 6.A, 6.C, 9.A)
2.
What's important and what's not? This is a mini unit that will teach
students to look for the main ideas and relevant details from a
cause-effect text
(
"Gorillas in Crisis"). Students will work in cooperative
groups and use fishbone maps to help write out the main ideas and
details. The students will also have two websites bookmarked on
the library computers that they will have to get information from
to write main ideas and details on their fishbone map. The final
result will be a summary of the article using the main ideas that
the students have written. (ELA/Reading 1.D, 12.1, 1.C, 10.F )
Math
1.
The students will study ratios, percents, and graphing in this unit.
The librarian will go through the information search process in
order to gather data for analysis and representation. The students
will then brainstorm surveys that can be conducted around the school,
such as students preferring pizza over hamburgers, favorite ice
cream flavors, teachers' favorite television shows, etc. The students
will decide on three different survey questions and then conduct
their surveys. After the data is gathered the students will analyze
and create two different kinds of graphs showing this information.
The students will use the library ibooks and Mac computers to create
their graphs. Each student must also write a summary of the experience
and to turn in with their graphs.
