MEPA  always begins the year with a Summer Work Session. The Board and Committees meet to lay out plans for the year. Each officer and committee member get the opportunity to present their plan of action.

A New Para Orientation is the next item that MEPA schedules for the year. Diane Hogg, Senior Asst. to Assoc. Supt. - Instruction has been the presenter for the past few years. Various departments give a short presentation explaining their role in the district and how the new paras will benefit from their services. Some of the departments that participate are Benefits, Mesquite Employee Health Clinic, and Risk Management. Diane explains our local organization (MEPA), our state organization (TESA) and our national (NAEOP) and the certified educational programs they each offer.

Each campus/site has a liaison for MEPA. They receive information regarding meetings, elections, fundraisers and anything else that their campus needs to know. Information is emailed or sent through innerschool mail to the liasion and they distribute it to the other paras on their campus/site. This year a meeting is held to give them the up-to-date information regarding the new school year. Each year the meeting is held by current Membership Chairperson, Cris Hays (Purchasing Dept. Buyer) and the Liaison Booster, Kristin Hiney (Admin. Asst. to Admin. Officers-Instruction).

As a thank you to the liaisons for their assistance throughout the year, they receive a free ticket to the annual Installation/Banquet.

We, as a district, are very fortunate to have the support of our Superintendent, Dr. Linda Henrie. MEPA also has an Administrative Liaison, Dr. Karen Nix who advises and guides MEPA and represents MEPA to the Mesquite ISD administration. Dr. Henrie and Dr. Nix honor us each year with a State of the District presentation. They offer this at our Kick-off meeting which is our first general meeting of the year. The meeting is offered twice in one day so each campus/site will be able to, alternately, send their paras without leaving any area uncovered.

This year we were entertained with skits about professionalism and kindness in How To and How-Not-To scenarios. A good time was had by all.
