Mary L. Moss Biography

General Information

Mary L. Moss Elementary School is part of the Mesquite Independent School District in Mesquite, Texas, with approximately 600 students in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade.  Moss students progress to Frank B. Agnew Middle School and then to Mesquite High School.

Classes start at 7:55 and end at 2:55.

Morning Procedures:

Breakfast and Early Arrival to School:

Breakfast will be served from 7:15 to 7:40 each morning in the cafeteria.  If students arrive at school before 7:45, they are to enter the front doors and immediately make their way to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast or to the gym if they are not.  Students will be dismissed to classes at 7:45.  All students arriving and going to the cafeteria or gym are to have a book to read.

Tardies:

If students arrive at school after 7:55, they are to stop at the office for a tardy slip.  They are to take this slip to their homeroom teacher for admittance to class.

Morning Drop-off:

Students do not enter the building until 7:15.  Parents/Guardians, when dropping off students in the morning, pull as far forward as possible to the third crosswalk to let your child/children out of the car.  Do not stop in front of the steps if there is room to pull forward.  Students should get out of the car on the side nearest the school building.  You may drop off in the lane closest the building or park and get out in the fourth lane like in the afternoon.  Pull as far forward as possible no matter what time you arrive.  This procedure should occur at 7:10 all the way to 7:55.

Dismissal Procedures:

Students are dismissed at 2:55 each afternoon.  Parents/Guardians should pull as far forward toward the second crosswalk as possible.  Students will be dismissed to cars if their car is in one of the two lanes closest to the curb in front of the building.  Students should enter their car on the passenger side.  The third lane from the building is the passing lane, and no child will be allowed to enter his/her car in this lane.  For those parents/guardians that are in the fourth lane (lane directly behind the parked cars), you must park  your car, walk across one of the crosswalks, retrieve your child/children, walk back across using a crosswalk, and enter your car.  Students should enter the car on the driver's side, away from traffic.

Cell Phone Policy:

Cell phones should not be carried to school.  If it is a must, cell phones are turned "off" while on school grounds and placed in the child's backpack.  If the phone rings or is out of the backpack, the teacher or administrator will take the phone.  The child may retrieve it at the end of the next school day.  If the phone is taken up a second time, the phone will be given to Mrs. Nelson or Mrs. Kovalcik, and the child may retrieve it at the end of the next school day and pay a $15.00 fee.  If the phone is taken up a third time, it will be given to Mrs. Nelson or Mrs. Kovalcik, and it can be retrieved at the end of the school year with a $15.00 fee.
