Academic Decathlon teams from the five Mesquite ISD high schools competed in the Region 12 Academic Decathlon Meet and two, Dr. John D. Horn and Dr. Ralph H. Poteet high schools, earned the right to advance to the state meet. Horn won the large school division and Poteet, which finished third in the medium division, advances based upon its point total. Mesquite High School finished second and North Mesquite took third to complete the sweep of the large school division.
The regional met was held Jan. 19-20 at McKinney North High School and featured teams from across the Metroplex.
The JHHS Academic Decathlon team advances to the state competition for the fifth consecutive year. The team walked away with gold medals in Super Quiz Relay, Super Quiz Team written, and overall team score and took home 79 out of a possible 126 medals. The large school state finals are Feb 23-24 in Katy.
PHS took third place overall in its division. Highlights include a second place finish in the Super Quiz Relay and third place Super Quiz Overall. PHS students earned 17 medals.
