PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It is a standard test that provides practice for the SAT's that will be taken during Senior year.
It also gives the opportunity to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship program.
The PSAT/NMSQT measures:
- Critical reading skills
- Math problem-solving skills
- Writing skills
The PSAT/NMSQT is primarily for juniors. However, MISD allows freshmen who qualified for the Duke TIP to take the test. Sophomores may take the test with the approval of their English teacher. The test is free for freshmen and sophomores. Juniors are required to pay for the test. The cost of the 2007 test is $13.00. The deadline for registrating for the PSAT is: September 21, 2007.

The SAT Reasoning Test is a measure of the critical thinking skills one needs for academic success in college. The SAT assesses how well one analyzes and solves problem.
There are three sections of the test:
- Critical Reading which has sentence completion and
passage-based questions
- Mathematics which is based on the math that college-bound students learn during their three years of high school
- Writing which has multiple-choice questions and a written essay
Basic fee is . Additional fees are added for late registration, standby testing, and center or date change.

The ACT is America's most widely accepted college entrance exam. It assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college level work.
