| STAAR to Replace TAKS for 2015 Class |
In 2011-12, the state is launching STAAR, the new assessment replacing TAKS. This will affect the graduation plan for all Mesquite ISD students, starting with the graduating class of 2015 (ninth-graders of 2011-2012).
Students who are in eighth-grade this year will be the first class to graduate under the new state system. Since course selection is coming up for eighth-graders, those students and parents will want to pay special attention to this message.
This question and answer PDF document gives an overview of the state's new assessment plan, which was recently released to school districts. Much of the language is taken from a document highlighting the House Bill 3 Transition Plan. As we learn more specifics, we will share that information with you. |

The award was presented to the district at the 15th Annual Texas Quest for Excellence Conference and Awards June 22 in Dallas. The Quality Texas Foundation is a state affiliate of the Baldrige National Quality Program and is presented to those organizations that demonstrate a sound, balanced approach to organizational management and performance improvement.
“By implementing the Quality Texas criteria for performance improvement, we will have a structure that focuses on quality processes and continuous improvement throughout the district,” said Dr. Linda Henrie, MISD Superintendent. “We value this recognition because it signifies an important milestone in our district’s quality journey.”
