Fasion Design WINS 4th at TSA National Competition!

Poteet had six students qualify for the TSA (Technology Student Association) National Competition in Washington, D.C. this summer. This was the first time Poteet has ever had students qualify for the national competition. Those students were:

PIT Camp 2014

PIT Camp for all incoming Freshmen will be Thursday, August 14th. Please mark your calendars for that day!

Registration is at 1:00 pm in the Commons.

Students will receive their schedule and a back-pack full of supplies! PIT Camp will conclude at 3:00 pm. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at 3:00 pm.

PTSA will be here for parents and students to join!

Certified MOS Master!

Kristine Macalalad passed the Excel Expert certification exam making her a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Master.  This is the highest level you can achieve in MOS certification.  She is one of three students in the district to obtain this certification.

Presley Goodman is the other Poteet student to achieve this level MOS certification from Poteet.

Adobe Certifications

Four of our Poteet Pirates have their Adobe Certified Associate Certification in Video Communications using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. This is not an easy task. The Adobe ACA exams are industry standard. Students have worked hard all year and prepared for this exam. They are to be commended!

Poteet Metal Shop and Wood Shops Receive $3000 Grant from Metrotex!

Representatives from the Metrotex Realtor's Association presented the Poteet Metal Shop and Wood Shops with a $3000 grant to use on supplies and materials for student projects next year.

Baseball Awards!

Congratulations to the following baseball players who received All-District awards:
 
Sophomore of the Year was Zack Baker-Shortstop/Second Baseman.

The  first-Team selections were: Ryan Boaz-Pitcher, Jordan Risedorf-3rd base, and Christian del Bosque-Catcher.

Making the second-team outfield was Collin Taylor and honorable mention goes to: Kaleb Fletcher-2nd base and Shortstop, Hunter Broyles-First Base, and Matt Hecht-Pitcher/3rd base.

Summer School Registration

Information is available in the Registrar's Office. Pre-registration is available on our campus May 5 through June 5th. If you do not pre-register for summer school, you must register on June 12 at Mesquite High School.

Softball Awards!

The Texas High School Coaches Association recently announce the All-State Academic team and 3 Poteet Pirates made the team.
 
2nd Team – Selena Mendoza, SR – 2nd Base.    
She will continue her playing career at the University of Southern Arkansas.
 
Honorable Mention – Madison Yannetti, SR – Short Stop.   
She will continue her playing career at the University of Arkansas.
 
Honorable Mention – Elisa Morris, SR – Outfield.  
She will attend University of North Texas
 
The award is given to high school athletes who excel in the following categories : GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT scores.  The award is given annually by the THSCA in conjunction with the United States Marin Corps.

Lighthouse Ceremony 2014

Orchestra Competition Results!

Wednesday, both the Poteet Jr. Varsity String Orchestra and the Poteet Varsity String Orchestras competed in the Peak Music Festival, which was held in Richardson at the Eisemann Performance Center.

Both Orchestras represented our school well by receiving the highest ratings possible:  SWEEPSTAKES!  On top of the Sweepstakes Award, the Poteet Varsity String Orchestra was chosen as the MOST OUTSTANDING GROUP of the CONTEST!

CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Lewis, Mr. Frank, and to both Poteet Orchestras for their outstanding accomplishments at this very stringent competition.

Track Athlete Headed to Austin State Meet!

Khalil Baker - Receives $1000 Scholarship from Rotary

This past Saturday, one of Poteet’s own, Khalil Baker, competed in the Rotary Club’s District’s Speech Competition.  He qualified for this tournament by earning first place in the city meet, finishing above all the other schools in Mesquite, as well as Dallas Christian and Sunnyvale.  At the district tournament he faced students that advanced from all over the Dallas area.  He represented Poteet well by finishing in first place with a perfect score.  For winning the contest Khalil received a plaque and a $1,000 scholarship.  Congratulations Khalil Baker for a job well done.

The boys' soccer parent pledged to donate $25 this season to Austin Elementary for every district win. The boys raised $300.

The inaugural season for the Poteet Winterguard wrapped up Saturday with a fantastic performance! The winterguard brought home a bronze medal from the North Texas Colorguard Championships in Burleson.
