Congratulations to the following students who had great showings at the TSA State Competition. JD Arnold designed and created a Texas Clock which received 2nd in Class. Jake Boyd designed and created a Plant Stand that received 1st in Class and a Dovetail Cedar Box that received 2nd in Class. Josh Roberts designed and built "The Texan" Grill that received 1st in Class! Eli Rudd designed and costructed an oxyacetylene cart that received 1st in Class! Congratulations to the boys and to Mr. Reese and Mr. Villwok!

Peters Takes Gold at 4A State Track Meet

One leap was all it took for them to realize that the Poteet senior was clearing more ground than the rest of the field. Peters pressed past the competition in resounding fashion to claim the gold medal in the triple jump at the Class 4A meet. It was a personal best distance of 40'10.5" which was a foot better than the 2nd place finsher.

UIL Accounting Team Finishes 2nd at State!

The UIL Accounting Team finished in 2nd place at the State UIL Competition this past weekend. Nevin Thomas received 1st place in class 4A and had the highest score in ALL of the state! Ryan Thomas placed 12th at state. Shibin Varghese placed 15th, and Marisa Hardy placed 16th. Congratulations to the team and to Mrs. Smith!

PHS Varsity Orchestra - Champions South Coastal Orchestra Festival

The Poteet High School orchestras traveled down to the south Texas coast over the weekend and competed in the South Coastal Orchesra Festival. They competed against other 4A & 5A varsity and junior varsity orchestras. Although the competition was strong, our varsity orchestra received the top scores of the festival and was awarded the championship trophy. Our junior varsity orchestra also recevied recognition for their outstanding performances. Congratulations to Vern Lewis, Mary Whistler, and all the students.

Outcome Unpleasant for Mt. Pleasant Softball Team Advances to Regional Quarterfinals

Our softball team sweep the girls from Mt. Pleasant in 2 games. The first game was a 1-0 nine inning thriller. On Friday night, Bradie Baker threw a no-hitter and the Lady Pirates scored 3 runs to take the victory. Carly Taylor, Lindsey Barsoum, and Kersti Rowan led the offensive charge for the Lady Pirates. The girls will now advance to the regional quarterfinals and will play McKinney North in a three game series. The 1st game will be Tuesday night at Allen HS at 7:30. Game two will be at Allen on Friday night. If a 3rd game is necessary, it will be held on Saturday at Allen. Congratulations and continued success to the Lady Pirate Softball Team.

Pirate Band Brings Home the Hardware

The Pirate Marching Band took their "Performance of Pride" on the road this past weekend. They competed in the Plano East Marching Festival. The Band returned home with 10 awards. In the 4A competition, the Pirate Band was named Best in Class! They also received trophies for outstanding winds, oustanding marching, outstanding percussion, outstanding drum majors, oustanding color guard, and oustanding general effects. In the overall competition of all classifications, we won the John Davies Spirit Award, had the oustandind visual performance of the day, and were named the Grand Champion runner-up. Congratulations to Scott Coulson, Rick Davis, Stave Kath, Cody Newman, and the entire Pirate Marching Band!

2006 Apple Corps Member

Congratulations to PHS teacher Jim Villwok. He will be inducted into the MISD Apple Corps at the October 9th School Board Meeting. Jim has been teaching at Poteet High School for all of his 13 years in education. He is the ultimate team player and an asset to our great faculty!

PHS Orchestra wins 2006 Mark of Excellence

The Poteet Varsity String Orchestra recently received the Mark of Excellence Award given by Choice Music Events. This is a national award, and schools are judged based on submitted recordings. The Poteet Orchestra was recognized as the overall outstanding high school string orchestra. This is quite an accomplishment! Congratulations to our orchestra students and directors!

Band 2005 State Champions!

Our 2005 - 2006 Marching Band won the 4A State Championship in Austin, Texas! Congratulations to all our band members, parents, and band directors! We are so proud of our Pirate band!

Cindy Pedison was awareded First Class Teacher for this school year. Congratulations on a job well done!

Girls Track Team Wins District!

Our girls' varisty track team won the 114A district championship! Several PHS athletes excelled at the meet and will continue their season at the regional track meet in Denton on the 21st and 22nd of April. Courtnie Allen won the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and ran on the championship 1600m relay team. Also running on the 1600m relay were Ashley Page, Mahogoney Jones, and Jazmine Harp. Tiffany Peters won the long jump and came in 2nd in the triple jump. Sarah Mellado came in 2nd in the pole vault, and Jazmine Harp came in 3rd in the 200m sprint. Our girls 400m relay and 800m relay both came in 2nd place. Ryan Lusk on the 1600m and 3200m runs. Akeem Turnbull came in 2nd in the high jump. James Lopez finished 3rd in the 3200m run, and Jacob Shuttleworth finished 3rd in the 1600m run. The boys 1600m relay team finished 3rd and will also advance to the regional competition.

Orchestra named Best Orchestra of the Day!

After completing their TAKS tests on Friday, our orchestra students traveled to the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center for a competition of high school orchestras. Our JV Orchestra received all superior ratings and received an award for best in class. The Varsity Orchestra also received all superior ratings. They also received an award for best in class. To top the day off, our Varsity Orchestra was named "Best Orchestra of the Day!" Congratulations to Vernon Lewis and the Orchestra!
