ACDEC


The Academic Decathlon is a ten subject competition testing not only your abilities to retain vast amounts of knowledge, but also your abilites to work as a team to accomplish common goals.

USAD exams are focused on "higher-level" thinking which includes:

* Organizational Thinking Skills
* Critical Thinking Skills
* Creative Thinking Skills

Book Club (Pirates Read Book Club)


Cultural Arts

Cultural Arts is a National Annual Art program in which students in which students are encouraged to create artwork that illustrates a given theme.

This years theme is: tba

Submissions are made in photography, literature, music composition, and several divisions of visual art: Mixed Media, Drawing, Painting, and Print.

Submissions are judged on a variety of levels, school, city (or school district), district (area), state, and national with only 1st place entries advancing beyond the school level. (1st 2nd & 3rd advance at school level).

DECA

An Association of Marketing Students

DECA chapters operate in over 4,500 high schools across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and territories, Mexico, Germany, and Canada. With over 180,000 members (mostly juniors and seniors), DECA's high school division is recognized and endorsed by all 50 state departments of education and the U.S. Department of Education.

Membership in the high school division is restricted to students with a career interest in hospitality, finance, sales and service, business administration and/or entrepreneurship. DECA programs are co-curricular, meaning programs complement nationally recognized curriculum standards in the classroom and then go further to incorporate realistic, educational experiences not available through classroom instruction alone.

DECA provides specific programs for the classroom teacher to use in student development and achievement. These programs can be organized in to four (4) categories; Leadership development, Community Service, Skill Assessment and Academic Skill Development.

We are an international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and entrepreneuership in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service.

Anyone in a marketing course 1st semester can join.

We meet monthly/bi-monthly @ 8 A.M. in Room 111.

FCCLA stands for Family Community Career Leaders of America.

We stand just for that! We want our members to become an ACTIVE part of our community. This is why most of our activities take place right here in Mesquite. As good citizens of this community, we volunteer locally. We strive to have one event per month. We meet most Tuesdays in Mrs. Taylor's portable.

H.O.P.E. Club

HOPE Club stands for Helping Our Planet Earth. As a member, you will help recycle the paper around our classrooms, participate in Community Service, and practice keeping our campus clean! We meet every Wednesday after school in Room 105.

Campus Clean-Ups

We will have a campus clean-up every six weeks throughout the year. Campus clean-ups will take place on a Saturday. This is our opportunity to take part in keeping Pride in our campus.

Earth Day Picnic

Every Spring we invite our feeder elementary and middle schools to participate in a picnic at out school to celebrate Earth Day. We play games and hand out prizes. Only the BEST and most RELIABLE HOPE Club members will be chosen for this event (and you get out of class). If this is something you want to do, then PARTICPATE and be RESPECTFUL!!! 10 students will be chosen.

Motivate young people to become better citizens

The mission of the JROTC is to motivate young people to become better citizens by teaching discipline, leadership, teamwork, map reading, American and military history, and basic rifle marksmanship and safety skills while remaining involved in the school and the community.

Newspaper (Captain's Log)

Newspaper's mission is to cover the PHS school community and its activities and events for the present year to the best of our ability.

Students on the newspaper staff are responsible for the development of the school newspaper, including, but not limited to conducting interviews, taking pictures of events,

Peer Helpers


Peer Helpers consist of Juniors and Seniors who have been accepted through an application process. Our Peer Helpers go off campus to the elementary feeder schools (Austin, Beasley, Cannaday, Kimball, and Porter) and Kimbrough. There they tutor children from various grade levels and have one on one time with them.

Science Club

The Science Club promotes the fun of science.

OUR MOTTO: Science is a verb- something we do.  We have contests that promote independent thinking and creativity, giving us an opportunity for socializing and sharing!

MEETINGS:  We meet on the third Tuesday of each month in room 101 from 3:50 to 4:30p.m. (and sometimes until  5:00 or 6:00).

MEMBERSHIP   is open to all.  Dues are $5 per year, payable by the October meeting.
Our COMMUNITY SERVICE projects include making holiday cards for the patients at Children’s Hospital and participation in other campus community service projects.

Student Council

Private passions grow into powerful voices. Student Council promotes leadership, dedication and school spirit through developing a community awareness of student government. The purpose of student council is to plan and organize activities that will foster the social growth and civic dvelopment of the student body. The Pirate Student Council has started to grow into one of the most predominate clubs on campus. Seven committees preside over a large organization, work with the principal periodically to exchange views, and plan out the Student Council calendar. Some events that Student Council has sponsored includes Homecoming festivities, Red Ribbon Week, Teacher Appreciation, Carter Blood Drive, Men of PHS, Habitat for Humanity and Children's Cancer Fund. Membership is open to all students.

TAFE

Texas Association of Future Educators

TAFE is sponsored by principals throughout the state of Texas. Our club strives help in community service activities, reward teachers throughout the school year, and assist at elementary schools. Our big event is the TAFE Convention which is held each year in San Antonio.

TAFE’s purpose is to provide information to students who wish to enter the field of education, to show appreciation for our teachers, and to contribute to our community.

We meet the 1st Thursday of every month before or after school, and everyone is welcome to join!

TFME


Texas Future Music Educators

Texas Future Music Educators is a group of high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in music education. These students meet on the first Monday of every month after school in the choir room. Student learn about music theory, music teaching, conducting, sightreading, and much more. Dues-paying members who exhibit regular attendance also have the opportunity to attend the Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio, TX in February.
