Tech Prep
Tech Prep programs offer practical learning experiences from high school through college. The high school and community college programs are linked to provide a focused, non-duplicative curriculum. With the Tech Prep programs offered in Mesquite, students can receive from two to fifteen hours of credit at designated Dallas County Community Colleges. Thus, students may be able to begin college at an advanced level, save time in getting a degree, and save college tuition costs.
Mesquite ISD has Tech Prep articulation agreements with the Dallas County Community College District in the following areas:
- Accounting
- Auto Body Tecnology
- Child Development
- Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
- Computer Information Technology Network Administrator and Support (CIT)
- E-commerce
- Hospitality Management
- Business and Fashion Marketing
- Office Technology
- Travel
- Exposition and Meeting Management
- and several Medical Technology Specialist areas
To receive college credit you must do the following:
- Sign up for Tech Prep courses in high school
- Earn a grade of "B" or better in the Tech Prep high school course
- Fill out the petition form for credit supplied by the career and technology counselor
- Take a copy of your transcript and the petition form and meet with an advisor at one of the Dallas County Community Colleges
- File a degree plan upon enrollment for the first semester of college
- Enroll in any class at the community college within 15 months after hgh school graduation
- Attend at leasst 12 class days and the Tech Prep college credit will be awarded
