Meet Mrs. Keezel |
 |
I was born and raised in Mesquite, with the exception of four years when my family lived in Dallas. I actually started school right here at Rugel! My brothers Brad and Brent went to Rugel before me, so I had some big shoes to fill. I attended Agnew Middle School and Mesquite High School…Go Skeeters! My parents, Jim and Becky, went to Agnew and MHS as well! |
When I’m not working, I like to spend time with my family and my friends. I like to try new restaurants, ride my bike long distances, play games, sing karaoke, read, and much more!
I taught for 6 years before becoming a school counselor. I had always known I wanted to be a teacher. Once I was in the classroom, I developed an even stronger desire to address the social and emotional needs of students. That’s when I decided to go back to college to get my masters degree. I love being a school counselor, and I always try to give my all to the students and everyone else I encounter! |
Undergraduate Degree:
Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, Stephen F. Austin State University - Nacogdoches
Master’s Degree:
Masters in School Counseling, Dallas Baptist University - Dallas, TX |

The Role of a School Counselor |
First and foremost I am an advocate for all individuals (students, staff, and parents). My goal is to foster effective communication between the home and school.
Guidance Curriculum
Providing guidance content in a systematic way to all students. Promoting awareness, skill development, and application of skills needed in everyday life through classroom guidance lessons.
Responsive Services
Addressing the immediate concerns of students through prevention and intervention.
Individual Planning
Assisting students in monitoring and understanding their own development. Addressing educational, career, and personal-social goals.
System Support
Support activities and services including professional/staff development, campus improvement plan, parent education, campus decision making, committees, etc.
Non Guidance
Planning/Coordinating special events, supervisory duties, administrative duties, etc. |

Cookies with the Counselor |
Students earn “spirit tickets” for showing excellent character! Spirit tickets can be earned in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and all special classes. All adults are on the lookout for great behavior!
These tickets are put in the classroom spirit ticket envelope where they await the weekly drawing. At the end of each week, I draw one name from each class.
Winners are recognized via the video announcements, and all are invited to join me in the cafeteria for “Cookies with the Counselor ”!

|
Character Education |
Our school focuses on character education in many ways. In addition to the weekly spirit ticket drawing, character lessons are taught in the classrooms and daily announcements are made where we focus on a specific character trait each month.
