Scholarships

The following scholarships have been received in the counseling center at Mesquite High School. Please check in the counseling center at your high school for additional scholarships.

Otis E. Ellis Memorial Scholarship Essay Contest Student or family member must be a Resource One member/owner in good standing. Students must each submit personal essays. $7,500 3/6/2009
The Dennis Patrick Foundation Applicant must be 2009 high school graduate, must have maintained a “B” average throughout high school, must have participated in their high school athletic sport program (UIL sanctioned) for the last two (2) years of his/her high school career. Applicant cannot have accepted a full scholarship and must use the scholarship award for higher education at a trade school, vocational school or an accredited 2-year or 4-year college the year following the award. four $500 scholarships 3/6/2009
Texas Retired Teachers Foundation Scholarship Applicant must be attending a Texas college in 2009-10 and major in education; must also be relatives of members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. $500 3/13/2009
Field Scovell Scholarship Applicant must be in the graduating class of a North Texas High School (public, private, or parochial). The applicant must have financial need, leadership qualities and high personal character, and graduate with a “C” or equivalent class average. The applicant must attend an institution of continuing education within the State of Texas, Big 12 Conference, or Southeastern Conference to be eligible for this one-year scholarship award. $3,000 3/21/2009
Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. Scholarship High school student in the Dallas area that is African-American, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American. This high school senior must be interested in law. Must be in the top 20% standing in his/her class, and have a minimum combined SAT score of 1650. Demonstrate financial need to attend college. $10,000 3/23/2009
Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund US Citizen or permanent resident; GPA 2.5 or higher; High School Senior who must matriculate at a US accredited four-year college or university full time during school year 2009-2010; Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extra curricular or other activities. The Public Affairs Luncheon Club Gwen Pharo Scholarship High school senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher; volunteer experience or work experience. Requires personal essay and two letters of recommendation. $2,000 3/31/2009
Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Stars on the Rise Scholarship The application is open to all in the Greater Dallas area pursuing higher education. Awards will be made available to qualified applicants in the following categories: entering freshmen, continuing students, and graduate students. Additionally, awards will be made to qualified need based and non-need based students. not listed 4/1/2009
Mesquite Credit Union Scholarship Requirements include an official school transcript, official ACT or SAT scores, letter of recommendation and personal essay. $1,000 5/15/2009
Harvard University Low-Income Family Assistance

If you know of a family earning less than $ 60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free...no tuition and no student loans!
