Mrs. Ruby Shaw was born Ruby Lawrence on August 14, 1897, on the Lawrence family homestead on what is now Kearney Street. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Mesquite, graduating in 1915.

In 1845, Mrs. Shaw's grandfather, John P. Lawrence, settled and began farming the land upon which the Ruby Shaw Elementary School now stands. Her father, Stephen Decatur Lawrence, was born on the homestead in 1853. The land on which Shaw Elementary stands was owned by the Lawrence family until 1972.

Mrs. Shaw married Harry Shaw who preceded her in death. Four sons were born into this family, Bob, Steve, Bill, and Dan, all of whom graduated from Mesquite High School.

Mrs. Shaw was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mesquite for 65 years and was still active in the nursery department at the time of her death on November 11, 1973.

 

Chassordee Willie has been the Principal at Ruby Shaw Elementary School since 2009.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, and Master’s degree from Texas A&M University Commerce.   Mrs. Willie’s teaching career began with MISD in 1997 serving as a classroom teacher until being named Assistant Principal in 2005.
Brandi Lewis received her Bachelor and Master's degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She has been with MISD since 1996. She worked as a classroom teacher for nine years before becoming a testing facilitator in 2005. In 2007, she became the Assistant Principal at Gray Elementary. In 2011 she was named Assistant Principal for Shaw Elementary.
