Mesquite, TX 75185-0634
MEA Website
The Mesquite Education Association (MEA) had its beginnings in 1958 when it formed under the name Mesquite Teachers Association. Dr. Ralph H. Poteet, who later became the Superintendent of Schools, served as the organization's second president during the 1960-61 school year. The name was changed to Mesquite Education Association in 1970.
Through membership in MEA, employees are allowed a voice concerning professional practices. They are also encouraged to participate actively in civic affairs. MEA members are represented by a body able to speak with authority for them in communicating with other Mesquite ISD entities as well as the community which they serve.
Mesquite Educational Paraprofessional Association
405 East Davis
Mesquite, Texas 75149
MEPA Website
The Mesquite Educational Paraprofessional Association was organized during the 1965-66 school year with twenty-nine charter members. In the spring of 1968, the association hosted a very successful District X TSTA Section Meeting with secretaries from the Dallas-Fort Worth area attending. The 1974 Section Meeting was hosted by the association; and in 1978, MEPA was host to a Texas Educational Secretaries Association (TESA) area workshop.
In 1970, when teacher aides were added to the Mesquite Foundation Program, several were added to the membership and the association continued to grow. For the first time in 1974, ten members were presented their Professional Standards (PSP) certificates at the annual National Association of Educational Secretaries Conference in Houston.
Leadership training is a constant focus of the association. MEPA members are encouraged to attend area workshops, summer and fall conferences hosted by state and national associations, and district staff development courses.
Participation in Staff Training for Effective Management (STEM) certification continues to soar as more paraprofessionals learn the importance of being life long learners. Providing STEM classes for the membership continues to be a priority as several of our members attended TESA's STEM Consultant Training held in Austin each year. The number of MEPA members obtaining the Certified Educational Office Personnel (CEOP) certification continues to grow.
Also rising to new heights each year is the number of members completing the Certified Educational Office Employee (CEOE) certification offered through the National Association of Educational Office Professionals (NAEOP). At last count, MEPA has seventy-one members who have successfully completed the requirements for this certification.
