A Letter from our Principal...

As we move into the spring we need your help to prepare our students for the new STAAR test.  One of the most important things to remember is the STAAR test is more rigorous than the TAKS test.  The goal of STAAR is to improve learning for all students and the district is building that strong foundation through our curriculum and by assessing each six weeks with the Curriculum Based Assessments (CBA’s).

As parents you can help your student be successful by:

  • Letting your child know you’re interested in what he or she is learning.
  • Ask to see classwork and homework.
  • Ask daily, “What did you learn in school today?”  and don’t accept “nothing” as an answer!  By reciting what they learned, it will help cement concepts and skills in their minds.
  • Please allow your child to attend tutoring.
  • Reinforce the message that teachers give each day:  school is a student’s job.  Your child should go to school prepared for work-not just a day of socializing with friends.  Stating this message at home and school will help your child understand the importance of these years of preparation for their adult lives.

We appreciate your support  and look forward to celebrating your child’s success this 2011-2012 school year!
