Notifying the school of student absences:

Anytime a student is absent from school the parent or guardian needs to send a hand written note with the student on the day he or she returns to school. The note needs to contain the name of student, date(s) of the absence(s), reason for the absence(s), along with the parent or guardian’s name and signature. Calling the school on the day of the absence is highly encouraged. A hand written note is required for the absence to be excused. Three absences per semester will be excused by hand written notes.

What types of absences are excused?
Illnesses for up to three days per semester will be excused by a note from the parent or guardian. More than three absences due to illness will require a doctor’s note to be excused. Absences are excused if a student attends the funeral of a family member with funeral documentation (program or obituary). Religious Holy Days that are approved in the Mesquite ISD Student Handbook are considered excused if the parent or guardian provides the appropriate documentation. Documentation for a Religious Holy Day absence must be submitted in advance.

Doctor or Dentist Appointments:
According to the State of Texas, a student who is in attendance for a portion of the school day, and then attends a medical appointment will be counted present if a correctly dated doctor’s note is submitted upon the student’s return to school. The absence or tardy will be marked “unexcused” until a doctor’s note is presented.

What types of absences are unexcused?
Going out of town, visiting family, running errands, or other personal reasons are not considered excused absences. Family trips or other out-of-town excursions that occur during the school day are not excused.

Our expectation at Tosch Elementary is that our students will be present each day school is held. We understand that certain situations arise that require students to miss school, but we hope that we can work together to keep those situations to a minimum by personal business appointments being scheduled outside the school day whenever possible.

Arriving late or leaving early:
Students may enter the building at 7:10 a.m. and the classroom at 7:45 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:55 a.m. We request your cooperation in seeing that your child is here promptly each day in order to prepare for a productive school day. On the fourth tardy and so forth within the same six weeks, your child will receive a detention. The tardy policy starts over at the beginning of each six weeks. If a student arrives to school after 8:10 A.M. or is picked up from school before 2:40 P.M., he or she has missed 15 minutes of instruction and are considered to have a partial day absence. For truancy purposes, partial day absences are considered to be unexcused absences. If the student, will be attending or has attended a medical appointment the absences will be changed when the appropriate documentation is provided. If a student is sent home by the school nurse during the school day, the absence will be excused.

Consequences for unexcused absences and Truancy laws:
Please be advised that Section 25.085 of the Texas Education Code states that a child who is at least six years of age who has not reached the child’s 18th birthday shall attend school unless exempted by law. The law also stipulates that “upon enrollment in prekindergarten or kindergarten, a child shall attend school.” Children enrolled in PK or K are under the same attendance requirements as all other schoolchildren of the State.

The law (SB 1432. Sec. 25.094) states that a student commits an offense of the law if the student is absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six month period or on three or more days in a four week period.

Should the total number of absences reach or exceed ten days in a six month period or three days in a four week period, the district may file a complaint against you and/or the student in County, Municipal, or Justice of the peace Court. In the event that you or your child is found in violation of the Texas Compulsory Attendance Law, you would be subject to prosecution under Sec. 25.093 or 25.094 of the Texas Education Code.

Reglas de Asistencia de la Escuela Primaria Tosch

Notificar a la escuela sobre las ausencias del estudiante:
Cuando un estudiante está ausente, el padre deberá enviar una nota por escrito el día que él o ella regresen a la escuela. La nota deberá incluir el nombre del estudiante, la(s) fecha(s) que estuvo ausente, la razón de la ausencia, y la firma del padre o encargado. Le sugerimos que llame el día en que su hijo(a) este ausente. Se requiere enviar una nota por escrita para que el estudiante pueda ser excusado. Solamente tres ausencias por semestre serán excusadas con la nota por escrita del padre.

¿Que tipos de ausencias son excusadas?
Un máximo de tres ausencias por enfermedad serán excusadas siempre que recibamos la nota por escrita del padre o encargado. Más de tres ausencias por enfermedad requerirán la nota de un doctor para ser excusadas. Las ausencias por causa de un funeral de un miembro de la familia serán excusadas si el estudiante provee documentación (programa fúnebre u obituario). Los días feriados religiosos aprobados en el Cuaderno del Estudiante de Mesquite ISD serán considerados excusados si el padre provee la documentación apropiada. Documentos para una ausencia religiosa se tiene que presentar con anticipación.

Citas del Doctor o Dentista:
De acuerdo con la ley Estatal de Texas, un estudiante que asiste a la escuela parte del día y después va a una cita médica y provee al regresar una nota del doctor especificando la fecha correcta, se contará ese día como presente. La ausencia o marca “tarde” será “no excusada” hasta recibir la nota del doctor.

¿Qué tipo de ausencias son “no excusadas”?
Las excusas que no son consideradas válidas son las salidas fuera del área, las visitas a la familia, los mandados, u otra razón personal. Los viajes familiares u otras excursiones que ocurren durante el año no son excusados.

Nuestra expectativa en la escuela primaria Tosch es que nuestros estudiantes estén presentes cada día que tengamos clases. Entendemos que hay ciertas situaciones que requieren que los niños pierdan clases, pero esperamos que podamos trabajar juntos para que estas situaciones sean mínimas. Una sugerencia es tratar de hacer citas después de horarios de escuela.

Llegadas Tardes, Salidas Tempranas:
Los estudiantes pueden entrar al edificio a las 7:10 a.m. La campana de tardanza suena a las 7:55 a.m. Le pedimos su cooperación de ver que su hijo(a) este aquí a tiempo cada día para que se prepare para un día escolar productivo. En el cuarto día tarde y en adelante entre las mismas seis semanas, su hijo(a) tendrá detención. La norma de tardanza comienza de nuevo al principio de cada seis semanas. Si un estudiante llega a las 8:10 a.m. o lo recogen antes de las 2:40 p.m., él o ella ha perdido 15 minutos de instrucción y se le considerará ausente por parte del día. Para el propósito de procesos judiciales, las ausencias por parte del día son consideradas “ausencias sin excusas”. Si el estudiante va a una cita médica o regresa de una cita médica, la ausencia será cambiada a excusada cuando recibamos la documentación apropiada. Si el niño fue enviado a la casa por la enfermera de la escuela, la ausencia será clasificada como excusada.

Consecuencias por ausencias “no excusadas” y las leyes:
Es importante que usted esté informado que la Sección 25.085 del Código de Educación de Texas declara que un niño que tiene por lo menos 6 años de edad y no ha cumplido el 18vo cumpleaños deberá asistir a una escuela excepto cuando está excusado por la ley. La ley también estipula que “una vez matriculado en Pre-Kinder o Kindergarten, el niño/a deberá asistir a la escuela.” Los niños matriculados en PK o K deben obedecer los mismos requisitos de todos los estudiantes del Estado.

La ley (SB 1432. Sec. 25.094) declara que un estudiante está infringiendo la ley si el estudiante está ausente diez o más días de la escuela en un periodo de seis meses, o tres o más días en un periodo de cuatro semanas.

Si el estudiante está ausente más de 10 días en un periodo de seis meses o tres días en un periodo de cuatro semanas, el distrito puede llevar la querella contra usted y/o el estudiante en un una Corte del Condado, Municipal o Juez de la Paz. Una vez que usted y/o su hijo sean encontrados culpables de la violación de la Ley de Asistencia Compulsoria de Tejas, usted estará expuesto a ser juzgado bajo la Sec. 25.093 o 25.094 del Código de Educación de Texas.
