Electronic Equipment in the Classroom

The use of cell phones and other electronic devices is restricted in schools and district facilities. Cell phones must be turned off during school hours and used only for educational purposed under the direction of a teacher.

At the high school level only, students may use their cell phones in the cafeteria before school and in the cafeteria during lunch. However, cell phones and other electronic devices may not be used in hallways and may only be used in classrooms under the direction of the teacher. If students use their own devices to access information using a network other than the MISD filtered network, the AUP rules still apply.

Devices that are on and/or cause a disruption during the school day will be confiscated. The school will not be responsible for damage, loss or theft of these items. Once a device has been taken up, the following procedure will be used to return the device:

 1. The first time a device is taken up, it can be picked up by the student or parent no earlier than the following school day. Devices will only be returned before or after school. An administrative fee of $15 will be charged before the device can be returned.

2. The second and subsequent times a device is taken up, it can be picked up by the student or parent no earlier than the following school day. Devices can only be picked up before or after school. An administrative fee of $15 will be charged before the device can be returned. Parents will be notified that the student’s device has been taken up for the second and subsequent times.

3. Any student refusing to give the device to school personnel will be subject to appropriate discipline.

CAMPUS VISITORS . . .

All visitors to Vanston Middle School (parents, guardians, volunteers, contractors, etc.) will now be required to present a valid state issued ID in the office.  The ID number will be entered into the new V-Soft computer system.  V-Soft helps track visitors, students, faculty, contractors and volunteers at our school, thus providing a safer, more monitored environment for the students.

V-Soft also has the capability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the campus.

We at Vanston feel certain that this will help keep our campus a little safer, and ask for your cooperation in presenting a valid state ID when checking in at the school.  Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.
