"ON-LINE FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATION" |
Click here to get started and follow the easy user-friendly steps.
Mesquite ISD provides free and reduced-priced cafeteria meals for students who qualify through the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs.
Every student must re-apply each year, unless they receive
a letter explaining they are already approved.
Already approved for benefits (no application needed)
Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC)
will give the Food & Nutrition Service office a list of CURRENTLY ENROLLED MISD students receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits (formerly known as the
Food Stamp Program). The Food & Nutrition office will add those students to the meal program without applying. A letter will be mailed before school starts to the family at the address on the district’s computer system notifying them the student(s) that have been added to the meal program. If you receive a Direct Certification letter do not complete
an online or paper application.
NEW Apply Online!
Early in August families may apply online anytime using an internet-enabled computer.
An application can be completed and submitted in minutes. The student will obtain
benefits quicker and the information is secure and confidential. Because of state requirements the schools will give each student a paper application the first week
of school, but it is not needed if you apply online.
To apply online have either the student’s district assigned identification number, that is
on report cards, OR social security number, which are highly recommended for quicker processing but not required. The name the student is enrolled with, not a short or nick name, the student’s birth date, school and grade are all required. You will receive a notification letter upon approval.
Click here to get started and follow the easy user-friendly steps.
Apply by downloading and printing the application
Dowload the application by clicking here. A high quality printer will be needed to print
a clear and precise application. The application will be scanned into an electronic format
if it is not printed clearly, and the application will be returned.
Returning Students
If a student was on the meal program at the end of the last school year, their benefit will continue until a new application is processed that eligibility will take effective immediately OR end on October 5, 2011.
For more information on applications for free or reduced-price meals, contact the Food
& Nutrition Services office at (972) 882-5512.

MESQUITE ISD ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO "TALK ABOUT IT"
|
In September, Mesquite ISD launched "Talk About It," an anonymous web-based messaging service that opens two-way lines of communication between middle school students and designated officials within their school.
While the district already has many programs to help students deal with challenges such as bullying, stress, peer pressure and family problems, "Talk About It" helps break the code of silence often experienced by students by allowing them to reach out to school officials anonymously for help.
Students may log on to the service from any computer with internet access and have the ability, on or off campus, to create positive connections with adults by messaging about topics of concern. Students can also use the service through cell phone texts. Faculty recipients are alerted in real-time to new messages and have the opportunityto respond and safely bring resolution to student issues through an ongoing dialogue.
"WILKINSON CAMPUS VISITORS" |
All visitors to Wilkinson Middle School (parents, guardians, volunteers, contractors, etc.)
will now be required to present a valid state issued ID in the office. The ID number will be entered into the new V-Soft computer system. V-Soft helps track visitors, students, faculty, contractors and volunteers at our school, thus providing a safer, more monitored environment for the students. V-Soft also has the capability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the campus.
We feel certain that this will help keep our campus a little safer, and ask for your cooperation in presenting a valid state ID when checking in at the school.
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.
