WMHS Teachers Recognized for Accomplishments
- Mrs. Stacy Gallegos, a third year BCIS teacher at West Mesquite, is adding to her list of honors. Mrs. Gallegos was chosen her first year of teaching as Newcomer of the Year for Mesquite ISD. Just before the winter break, Mrs. Gallegos received word that she has been chosen as one of ten Rapoport Rising Star Teachers by the Texas Exes Association with The University of Texas. Each year the Texas Exes Association honors twelve teachers from across the state as outstanding teachers, and each year this association allows all past recipients of this honor to nominate teachers with three years or less experience as Rising Stars. From these nominations, ten teachers from across the state are selected to receive the honor of Rapoport Rising Stars and to attend the Texas Exes conference in Austin. Stacy Gallegos was nominated for this honor by Judy Heaps, one of the twelve recipients of the 2007 Outstanding Teacher award. Congratulations Mrs. Gallegos.
- Mr. Kelly Riddle, WMHS' Technology Education teacher, was honored at the September school board meeting as one of the newest MISD Apple Corps Teachers. Mr. Riddle has been teaching for eight years - all in Mesquite ISD. Kelly enjoys watching students apply classroom knowledge to "real world" problems. He says, "I know that my students are not going to have all the answers. It's my job as a good teacher to provide guidance and structure so that all of my students experience success inside and outside of the classroom." Congratulations, Mr. Riddle!
- Check out our very own teacher inspiring short videos found on the MISD YouTube Website. Mr. Adam Tarpley, Business teacher, plays "JC", and Mr. Eric Vera, Theater teacher, plays "Mac." Thank you, Mr. Tarpley and Mr. Vera!
The New Sculptural West Artwork! Congratulations to Mrs. Jordan's Art 1 and Drawing 2 students for their sculptural West artwork creation that now decorates the halls at West.
