My Prayer

What is there to gain
Focusing on what is left?
It's time to travel.

Build myself by steps.
Embrace what is positive
Pain flows through my soul.

Endless tears flowing
Washing away what once was
Your sweet memory.

Move tentatively,
But decidedly. Leaving
You where you belong.

How could I have lived
My life so unconsciously?
Ill defined; unknown.

Who am I to be?
What gives me purpose on earth?
I need a Vision.

Please show me the way.
To my innermost desires
I want to find Me.

Once found, I can be
Wholly and decisively
A person with life.

No one but I can
Accomplish this task. Touched by
Those who have loved me.

Lord, make me worthy
To receive Thy blessings now;
An open heart yearns.

This is one I wrote for a friend of mine who lost his buddy while on a scouting mission together, a sniper took him out as he was standing right next to my friend. The very next day, my friend stepped on a land mine and lost his leg. I wrote this for his sacrifice for our country.

Hero

God selected you
Oh humble soul; not knowing
What was being asked.

You were so young then.
Your whole life was before you.
Still naive to life.

Trained as a killer
Yet still not prepared for death
Dying all around.

Only endurance
And complete trust in yourself
Kept you protected.

Bullets were flying.
You were left when others were taken.
Where was God for you?

Was He protecting?
Did He spare you for greater
goodness left to give?

Knowing you to be
wiser than most, staying humble;
Strong in heart and soul.

What makes a man brave?
What makes a man so able?
What makes a man love?

To such sacrifice
A friend taken; a leg lost
What else must you give?

War is horrible!
Making our men souless ghosts.
Love can redeem man.

God has returned you
A gift so painfully earned,
A love forgotten.

Changes

Life changes daily.
Joyful one day, grief the next
No map to follow.

Looking for landmarks
Unfamiliar terrain
I must find my way.

Before me, a road
Seldom traveled, yet beckons.
Where will it lead me?

Before, there was fear.
But now I have been guided
By someone who cares.

He has shown me light
Patiently he takes my hand
And turns me eastward.

Heading toward the light
I take the first step to start
My journey again
