MISD participates in the State health plan with TRS ActiveCare which is administered by Aetna and CVS Caremark. The district and state contribute $3,564 and $3,192 (depending on which plan you are enrolled in) to an employee's health insurance.
The Mesquite Employee Health Center offers quality medical health care to all MISD health plan participants (covered employees and covered dependents enrolled in the MISD health plan) for acute illnesses and chronic disease processes at a very affordable price. Insurance card and photo ID must be presented at time of service.
Physicals, screenings and referrals are also offered to participants, and orders for lab work received from an outside provider can be performed at the MEHC, as long as the request is on a Quest Diagnostics requisition.
The MEHC pharmacy will fill prescriptions from any doctor from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Your prescription may be called in, faxed or dropped off anytime. Insurance card and photo ID must be presented at time of service.
Certain over-the-counter medications are also available at a great savings to all employees of the district through the MEHC pharmacy.
Each fall, employees have the opportunity purchase a PC or Mac computer from the district’s vendors at the district cost. Payment may be made monthly over a two-year period through payroll deduction. No interest is charged. All employees are eligible for this benefit after one year of employment.
Unique to Mesquite ISD, the ETIP program is the first of its kind created to recruit, retain, differentiate and reward the most talented and dedicated classroom teachers. Faced with a nationwide teacher shortage, MISD developed the ETIP program to develop teachers’ expertise through targeted, specified professional development that adds value to the district. Through ETIP, these master teachers can substantially improve their financial future while staying in the classroom. (In the past, an educator's only option to achieve a significant income increase was to move out of the classroom into administration.)
The ETIP program allows a classroom teacher to increase his/her earning potential by up to $12,000 annually if all three tiers are completed.
TIER I: $5,000 salary increase upon completion of an 18-hour (college hours) program and demonstrated growth.
TIER II: Additional $2,000 salary increase with a master's degree and value added at the campus level
TIER III: Additional $5,000 salary increase with a doctorate degree and value added at the district level.

Teachers who are new to the profession will have the opportunity to receive on-going support and learning from fellow teachers across our district. Time is given to connect, de-brief, and reflect with other first and second year teachers who are experiencing the same successes and challenges. Classroom environment, classroom management, building relationships, effective instructional strategies, engagement and motivation, and teacher self-care are just a few of the topics that are covered over the course of our 2-year New Teacher Academy.
