Fine Arts
Excellence in Fine Arts
Mesquite ISD's Fine Arts curriculum gives elementary students a comprehensive glimpse into all of the fine arts and allows secondary students to enjoy extracurricular participation as well as serious study of the arts.
Elementary students receive music and art instruction from certified music and art specialists. Students attend performances by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and go on carefully crafted tours to the Dallas Museum of Art. Students enjoy a visit to the opera as well as special presentations at each school highlighting one or more of the fine arts.
Middle school students can continue their study of music in additional to theatre. The One-Act Play Festival provides an exciting, competitive outlet for theatre students. A junior version of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event gives middle school students a way to have their art critiqued by outside judges. Band, choir and orchestra programs participate in UIL competitions as well as concerts for parents and the community.
At the high school level, art students attend the Visual Art Scholastic Event competition and special "get involved" Saturday programs. Ten public art shows throughout the year highlight our students' work. Each high school theatre program produces four theatrical shows per year, including a musical. Each year, one of the high schools produces a Children's Theatre production, which is aligned with the third-grade literacy curriculum and is attended by every third-grader in the district. Opportunities to excel and enjoy music about at the high school level with consistent UIL Sweepstakes-winning choir, orchestra and band programs.
