School Day Extended by 5 Minutes
The Texas Education Agency requires students to receive a minimum of 75,600 minutes of instruction each school year. Mesquite ISD includes two bad weather make-up days in its school calendar; however, during the 2021-22 school year, it was necessary to close for three days due to inclement weather conditions. This resulted in having to add 10 extra minutes to each school day after Spring Break.
To avoid the same circumstances for this school year, the Leadership Team determined that extending the school day by five minutes in the afternoon would cause the least amount of disruption and inconvenience to students, parents and staff members. This will prevent the district from needing to add minutes or days to the school calendar should a similar situation arise.
Afternoon bus schedules will be adjusted to meet this new schedule.
Campuses will adjust their schedules accordingly. New school hours will be as follows:
- 3-year-old pre-K Morning Session: 7:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- 3-year-old pre-K Afternoon Session: 11:55 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.
- 4-year-old pre-K (all day): 7:55 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.
