Character Ed
Character Education is an important piece of our schools and educating the whole child. A high quality Character Ed program incorporates the following:
- Stress positive character traits as outlined in the bill
- Use integrated teaching strategies
- Age appropriate
TEA Character Ed Information
The district requirement is for one teacher led lesson to take place every 6 weeks at the minimum. The Character Education program may be set by the campus principal or counselor. Collaborate with your principal to find the right fit for your campus. Below is a list of resources.

- Texas Professional School Counselor certificate requires 200 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) every 5 years at renewal. TEA Website for Renewal
- Professional insurance is recommended for all school counselors. Many professional organizations (ASCA, TCA) offer discounted insurance. Other example insurance providers: ATPE for school counselors HPSO for school counselors & LPC/LMFT
