Information about our program, including guidance lessons, groups, character education, theme weeks, and more.
Character Education is an important piece of our schools and educating the whole child. A high quality Character Ed program incorporates the following:
- Stress positive character traits as outlined in the bill
- Use integrated teaching strategies
- Age appropriate
The district requirement is for one teacher led lesson to take place every 6 weeks at the minimum. The Character Education program may be set by the campus principal or counselor. Collaborate with your principal to find the right fit for your campus. Below is a list of resources.

October 23-31 - Red Ribbon Week: Theme: Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.
November - Thanks & Giving Month: Fundraiser for Sharing Life and Mesquite Social Services
February 3-7 - College and Career Week: Theme: BIG Dreams, BIG Goals, BIG Life October

April-National Child Abuse Prevention Month
April 5 - Texas Go Blue Day: Wear blue in support of child abuse prevention
- Texas Professional School Counselor certificate requires 200 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) every 5 years at renewal. TEA Website for Renewal
- Professional insurance is recommended for all school counselors. Many professional organizations (ASCA, TCA) offer discounted insurance. Other example insurance providers: ATPE for school counselors HPSO for school counselors & LPC/LMFT
