2023-24 Priorities
MISD is committed to creating a community of learners that supports, honors, and acknowledges our students and staff’s cultural assets, contributions and emotional needs. We prioritize a sense of belonging for everyone in MISD through a commitment to the Mesquite Promise and relationship-centered practices. We have SEL teams on every campus to ensure there is dedicated time for all students to learn about and reflect on SEL competencies. We also dedicate the resources to provide free counseling services through the CARE Clinic to MISD families and staff members.
We recognize that shared responsibility for student success requires collaboration among teachers, administrators, families and the community at large. Together, we will create a seamless support network, working hand-in-hand to inspire, motivate, and empower our students to reach their unlimited potential.
Our Family, Student and Community Engagement Plan prioritizes strong partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and local stakeholders, fostering a network of support that enriches educational experiences and expands opportunities for our students. We actively seek input from our students, families, and community members, valuing their voices and involving them in decision-making processes.
MISD is committed to exceeding state safety and security standards. We partner with local law enforcement to provide at least one full-time, fully licensed officer at every secondary campus. Beginning in September of 2023, each of our 34 elementary schools will have a full-time armed security guard as required by House Bill 3. Other security measures in Mesquite ISD include the following:
- Clear bag policy at all campuses and athletic events
- Every MPD officer has direct entry access to every campus
- Police conduct after-hours training exercises in our schools
- All campus visitors are screened through a single point of entry
- Online anonymous reporting system notifies MISD staff and police
- All facilities have high-tech camera surveillance and at least one MPD SRO or armed security guard
MISD is committed to expanding our work and commitment to ensure all students are reading on grade level by 3rd grade. We believe reading opens the door to all other learning and success. MISD is committed to supporting early literacy through our full-day PreK program as well as our preschool community outreach program that encourages and equips families to Read, Play and Talk together.
A first-of-its-kind partnership between Mesquite ISD and technology powerhouses SoftServe and Google, AYO helps students reveal their potential and identify their passions. We want our students to experience a tailored learning approach rooted in the belief that each of them is Made to Excel. AYO uses AI technology, as well as teacher and family input, to:
-
Help students understand their interests and talents
-
Help educators tailor their teaching approach to meet the needs of each student
-
Help engage families in their child’s education journey
