Mesquite ISD 2020 District Rating: Not Rated Due to a Declared State of Disaster

The 2021 rating label that was issued to all districts and campuses was Not Rated due to a Declared State of Disaster. Due to extraordinary public health and safety circumstances, the closure of schools during the state’s testing window inhibited the ability of the state to accurately measure district and campus performance. Due to this circumstance, the district and campuses retained their 2018-19 ratings.

Parents are encouraged to visit to view online report cards designed to be useful tools in seeing how a school or school district is doing in different areas. The report cards spotlight specific strengths and challenges, in order to assure the needs of all students are being met. Parents can search by district or school name and compare that district’s or school’s performance to others in their area.

HB3 Board Goals

HB3 requires school boards to adopt detailed plans developed by their management teams that achieve goals in two key areas:

  1. Early childhood literacy and mathematics (EC-LM) proficiency
  2. College, career, and military readiness (CCMR)

School boards must review the progress of each plan at least annually at a public meeting. These goals will be posted on the district website for the district level goals and on each campus website for the campus level goals once approved. Distinction Designation

Note: TEA did not award any Distinction Designations for 2019-20 or 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 related declared state of disaster.

Campuses that receive a rating of C or above are eligible for distinction designations. Distinction designations are awarded to campuses based on achievement on performance indicators compared to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographics. There are seven possible distinctions; however, not all seven distinctions are possible at all campuses. For example, Academic Achievement in Social Studies is not available for elementary campuses.

The distinctions are:

  1. Top 25% Student Progress (based on Index 2)
  2. Top 25% Closing Achievement Gap (based on Index 3)
  3. Academic Achievement in Reading/Language Arts
  4. Academic Achievement in Math
  5. Academic Achievement in Science
  6. Academic Achievement in Social Studies
  7. Post-secondary Readiness

Kimball Elementary, Motley Elementary and Wilkinson Middle School earned all possible distinctions in the 2019 accountability ratings.

58% of campuses in MISD earned one or more distinctions in 2019.
