Wrapping Up School Board Appreciation Month: Honoring Our Dedicated Board Members
As January comes to a close, Mesquite ISD proudly wraps up School Board Appreciation Month by recognizing the incredible individuals who dedicate their time, passion, and leadership to shaping the future of our students. The Mesquite Board of Trustees plays a vital role in guiding the district, advocating for student success, and ensuring that Mesquite ISD continues to provide exceptional education and opportunities for every child.
This month, we’ve highlighted our outstanding board members, each with a unique journey and commitment to serving our schools and community.
Robert Seward – A Legacy of Dedication
A proud 1968 graduate of Mesquite High School, Robert Seward has dedicated years to ensuring that every student in Mesquite ISD has the resources to dream big and succeed.
For Mr. Seward, the most fulfilling part of serving on the board is watching students’ journeys—from their classroom accomplishments and extracurricular triumphs to the unforgettable moment of walking across the stage at graduation. He firmly believes that education is the foundation of stronger communities and is proud of the district’s innovative initiatives, including Dr. David Vroonland Vanguard High School.
He also takes great pride in Mesquite ISD’s recognition as one of Forbes’ top workplaces and its financial excellence, reflecting the district’s unwavering commitment to staff and students.
Greg Everett – A Champion for Educators
Mr. Everett believes education plays a critical role in strengthening individuals and communities. To him, #ExcellenceAlways isn’t just a motto—it’s a daily commitment to fostering lifelong learning and helping every child reach their full potential.
Kevin Carbo – Decades of Service
With roots in Mesquite ISD since the 1980s, Kevin Carbo has been a dedicated advocate for students, parents, and educators. As a former PTA member and proud MISD parent, his passion for education has grown stronger.
Mr. Carbo takes pride in supporting educators who go above and beyond to shape young minds. He is incredibly proud of creating alternative schools, like Mesquite Academy and Vanguard High School, which provide students with unique pathways to success beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Eddie Rose – A Lifelong Commitment to Service
Since being elected to the board in May 2016, Eddie Rose has remained deeply involved in the Mesquite community. With decades of service in the Mesquite Fire Department—where he currently serves as an arson investigator—his passion for helping others extends into the education sector.
Mr. Rose finds fulfillment in witnessing the daily successes of students, teachers, and staff. Coming from a family of educators, he considers serving on the board a way to give back to a district that has positively shaped countless lives. He is especially proud of Mesquite ISD’s commitment to student success, ensuring that every decision made is rooted in helping students thrive.
Teia Collier – Shaping the Future Through Education
Teia Collier, a North Mesquite High School alumna, believes public education is the key to building a brighter future for all. Raised by educators, she sees learning as a lifelong journey filled with opportunities.
Ms. Collier is particularly proud of the achievements of Mesquite ISD students, both past and present. Their innovation, hard work, and accomplishments inspire her daily and reaffirm her dedication to ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.
Gary Bingham – Empowering the Next Generation
Gary Bingham, a 1975 graduate of Mesquite High School Class of 1975, strongly connects to Mesquite ISD and its mission to empower students. He firmly believes that education equips students with the skills and confidence needed to succeed, no matter their background.
Among his contributions to the district, Mr. Bingham is incredibly proud of the Paraprofessional to Teacher program. This program supports career growth for paraprofessionals and helps them transition into teaching roles. This initiative strengthens the district’s workforce and provides a pipeline of dedicated educators for future generations.
Elaine Hornsby – A Lifelong Commitment to Education
A proud Mesquite High School graduate, Elaine Hornsby dedicated 38 years to education, including serving as a principal in Mesquite ISD before retiring in 2011. Since joining the Board in May 2015, she has continued her unwavering commitment to supporting MISD students, teachers, and the community.
Ms. Hornsby takes great pride in witnessing the growth and achievements of MISD students, knowing that their success positively impacts families and strengthens the broader community. She is incredibly proud of the ETIP (Educational Training and Induction Program), which develops highly qualified teachers who go on to mentor and support other educators in the district. For Ms. Hornsby, seeing these dedicated educators provide the best opportunities for students is the most rewarding part of her role.
