Dress Code

Standardized Dress Code 2025-26

Standard Dress applies to all middle schools, high schools and the following participating elementary schools: Florence, McKenzie, McWhorter, and Porter.

All other elementary schools follow a traditional dress code. Please scroll down to view those guidelines. 

Reminders

A clear bag policy will be in effect for ALL students for the 2025-26 school year. Only clear backpacks, purses, and totes are allowed for students on campus. All items inside a student's backpack, purse, or tote must be visible; however, students may carry a small nonclear bag to hold personal items, such as a cell phone, money, and hygiene products.

All middle and high school students will be issued an ID badge, which must be worn on a lanyard at all times.

Traditional Dress Code

Note: Students at Florence, McKenzie, McWhorter, Porter Elementary and all secondary campuses must adhere to the standardized dress code.

The following guidelines apply to all students, including those attending elementary campuses that do not participate in Standard Dress.

Clothing

  • Ill-fitting clothes are not allowed, e.g., too tight, too baggy, sagging, too short, too long, too low, immodest, sloppy, etc.
  • Shorts, skirts, and jumpers must be mid-thigh or longer.
  • Slits in skirts will not extend more than 3 inches above the knee.
  • Cutoffs, boxer shorts, pajama bottoms, athletic shorts or sweats, bike shorts, and leggings as outer garments are not allowed (elementary may make allowances, e.g., leggings, etc.).
  • Shirts must have sleeves after the third grade.
  • Hoods will not be worn inside the building.  
  • Hoodies must be solid in color and may have a school, college, or U.S. armed forces logo.
  • Torn, ripped, or cut clothing is not allowed.

Shoes

  • Loafers, athletic shoes, dress shoes, and closed-toe mules or closed-toe slides are acceptable.
  • Sandals and open-toed shoes must have a back strap.
  • Unsafe shoes are not permitted, e.g., shoes with wheels, slippers, flip flops, etc.

Accessories

  • Grills and decorations on teeth are not allowed.
  • Inappropriate tattoos and body art are not allowed.
  • Hats, bandanas, sweatbands, head scarves*, or hair coverings* may not be worn in the building (*unless related to religious practices)

 

Las siguientes normas aplican a todos los estudiantes incluyendo a las escuelas primarias que no participan en Vestimenta Estándar. Nota: Los estudiantes de las primarias Florence, McKenzie, McWhorter, Porter y todas las escuelas secundarias deben cumplir con el código de vestimenta estandarizado.

Prendas

  • Está prohibida la ropa demasiado ajustada al cuerpo, holgada, corta, larga, escotada, poco modesta o desarreglada, etc.
  • Pantalones cortos, faldas y jumpers deben llegar a medio muslo o ser más largos.
  • Las aberturas en las faldas no deben pasar de 3 pulgadas por encima de la rodilla.
  • Ropa recortada, pantalones cortos tipo boxer, pijama, pantalones y shorts deportivos, pantalón de sudadera, corte ciclista y mallas utilizadas por fuera de la ropa no están permitidas. (escuelas primarias pueden hacer excepciones p.ej. mallas, etc.).
  • Después del tercer grado, todas las camisas deben tener mangas.
  • No se permite el uso de capuchas dentro del edificio. 
  • Las sudaderas deben ser de colores sólidos pero pueden tener el logotipo de una escuela, colegio o de las fuerzas armadas de EE.UU.
  • No está permitida la ropa rasgada, rota o cortada.

Calzado

  • Mocasines, zapatos deportivos, zapatos de vestir con punta cerrada y los zapatos zuecos cerrados son aceptables.
  • Sandalias y zapatos abiertos deberán tener una correa trasera.
  • Zapatos que no son seguros no son permitidos p.ej. zapatos con ruedas, pantuflas y sandalias, etc.

Accesorios

  • Parrillas y decoraciones dentales no están permitidas.
  • Están prohibidos los tatuajes o arte corporal inapropiado.
  • Gorros, bandanas, bandas de transpiración, velos* o coberturas para el cabello* están prohibidas dentro del edificio (excepto si están relacionados con prácticas religiosas).
