Jason Singletary
August 24, 2017 - CTE welcomes back Jason Singletary to a new school year. Last year Jason was deployed to Afghanistan from October thru April. As of yesterday, duty has called once more and he will spend a few weeks helping our neighbors in Houston following the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. We tip our hats and put hand over heart to show our appreciation for his dedication in the field and to our country.
Engineering Teacher Adlena Jacobs at the TEC
August 15, 2017 - Adlena Jacobs, a STEM teacher at the TEC is part of an accelerated vertical alignment program at Dallas County Community College District preparing high school students for the workforce. A team of two high school teachers, two community college level instructors, university professors, and industry professionals are working to identify barriers to student engagement, persistence and success within the computer science and engineering field. This team brainstorms, discuss, research, and decide on classroom level interventions that could assist with overcoming the identified barriers. The workforce partners and mathematicians provide ideas to help educators decide on possible interventions in computer classes. The mathematicians decide on interventions in the classes they teach as well as test the interventions and gather data on their impact. The use of formative assessments allows for further discussion and idea generation among the team. We are happy to have Adlena be a part of this endeavor helping to find solutions for our students.
