Allan Alfaro
North Mesquite High School
Class of 2010
Meet Allan Alfaro, Class of 2010 North Mesquite High School graduate and professional pilot. Alfaro immigrated to the United States with his family in 2005 and enrolled at Mesquite ISD while in middle school. After learning a new language and familiarizing himself with a new culture, Alfaro had his heart set on pursuing a career in aviation. His perseverance led him to the University of Dubuque where he earned a B.S in Professional Flight Operations. Alfaro accomplished one of his dreams of becoming a pilot and is currently working as a first officer for Wheels Up.
The Sky's the Limit
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Professional Flight Operations, Alfaro consecutively earned a private pilot’s license and then a commercial license with an instrument and multi-engine ratings, required upon employment as a commercial pilot. Alfaro’s career took off as an aerial survey pilot for a multi-million dollar industry, generating images for Google Earth, Apple, State Farm among others. After gaining professional experience Alfaro accepted a position to join ExpressJet Airlines, a small regional airline with partnerships with United Express and United Airlines. During the pandemic, the airline industry took a toll and operations ceased.
Today Alfaro is working as a first officer for Wheels Up, providing private flights to the company's members. “It’s been an amazing career,” he says “I can’t wait to see where I stand five years from now."
Favorite High School Memory
Alfaro’s favorite high school memory was enjoying the early release days during his junior and senior years. “During my junior and senior years, I spent a lot of time researching colleges and universities that had an aviation program,” he says.
