Graphic organizers (Chp. 26) and mini lessons will be taught during the school year to teach the targeted TEKS objectives such as 3.13B, 3.13A, and 4.11A. Many lessons will come from Guiding Readers and Writers Grades 3-6 by Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell.
3.8B & 4.2B Strategies will be used with library books to teach students about characters and the changes they go through. Lessons will be used from the book Using Children’s Literature to Enhance Reading Instruction by Eve Hayes and DeLinda Youngblood.
4.2B Thinking maps will be used to support learning this TEKS. Lessons throughout the year will be based on the First 20 Days of Teaching found in Guiding Readers and Writers. Students will be monitored frequently for understanding and individual reteaches will be done as needed.
K-5th Grade-Science vocabulary will be posted on the television bulletin board and in the library. Students will be encouraged to check out non-fiction books to enhance understanding.
