Library lessons/activities that will teach the focus TEKS (there should be at least one unit/lesson/activity for each of the focus TEKS listed above):
These objectives will be addressed through read alouds during the year using Bluebonnet books, Mockingbird books and other stories. Examples of different genres used are The Uglified Ducky (narrative text), The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau (biography), and That Book Woman (historical fiction). Questioning the students before, during and after the read aloud will help with comprehension. Higher level oral questioning will also be incorporated. Students must be able to support their answers from the text.
Other ideas may be implemented throughout the year as the need arises. Also, some of the basic questioning will be incorporated in the read alouds with the younger grades as well for exposure to the objectives because they are in need of comprehension development as well.
How will you communicate your plan to your school community?
