Scholastic Book Fair: The library holds a book fair each semester to raise funds for the Lone Star Field Trip. Students can visit the book fair during classes or before and after school. Book fair dates this year are November 17-21 and March 23-27. On Thursday night of each book fair week, we will hold evening hours for parents to come shop as well!
Students who purchase books will be entered into a drawing for free books and prizes, and parents who purchase on Thursday nights will be entered into a drawing for restaurant gift cards!
Book Club: The NMS Library will be sponsoring the Knight's Book Club this year. We will meet to read and discuss popular literature about twice a month. We will be working in conjunction with Terry Middle School to encourage interaction and relationship building with other students in the district. In addition to oral discussions regarding the literature, we will be using technology to share our thoughts and perceptions of the books. Check out Mrs. Knight's Round Table Book Blog to see what we are reading and what the students and teachers have to say about it!
Inter-Library Loan: If students or teachers need resources the NMS Library does not own, we can borrow the resource from other MISD campuses. By selecting ALL for the CAMPUS choice on the online catalog, one can check the holdings of other libraries. Inform the librarian of materials that need to be borrowed from other campuses. These items can be used for a two-week time period and must be returned in perfect condition.
Mission Statement: The mission of the New Middle School Library is to provide materials and services for community residents of all ages for personal enrichment, enjoyment and educational needs. The library is dedicated to providing practical access to all forms of media to facilitate users' quests for excellence. The educational needs of middle school students will be supported and programs will be developed to stimulate children's interests and appreciation for reading and learning.
AC New Middle School's library contains over 20,000 items, an online catalog for easy searches, and safe age-appropriate databases to meet the students' research needs.
The New Library webpage is accessible 24-7. Students can use the databases, pathfinders for class projects, and interactive links on the TAKS Support Plan offered here at any time.
Computer Lab: We have 12 eMac computers for student use in the library. Internet use is limited to classes conducting research or individuals with specific project needs assigned by a teacher. Students must adhere to the Rules of Acceptable Use Policy at all times, and a teacher or the librarian must give student permission before printing to avoid waste and/or charges. Databases such as netTrekker and Power Search are preferred and encouraged instead of Internet use as they provides more valid, safe, and reliable information to the students.
