Library Information

The North Mesquite High School Library provides multiple information sources, including books for reference and pleasure, magazines, newspapers, videos, audio books, computer software, and online databases. 

We have over 37,000 items available for check out to students and staff in addition to 24/7 access to our online databases and catalog.  Twenty-four computers are networked to the Internet and are available for student research before, during, and after school.  Our library also provides copier and printer service for a small fee.

HOURS:  We are open from 7:45 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. Mon.-Fri.

Our library is staffed with two full-time librarians.  Mrs. Sherry Doran is a teacher with a secondary Social Studies composite

certification and an all-level (K-12) Learning Resources certificate.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and is currently working on her Masters in Library Science.  Mrs. Doran taught GT and AP World Geography for 10 years here at NMHS before moving to the library last year.  She is also co-sponsor of Academic Decathalon.

Mrs. Leann Weatherly taught French and English at Mesquite High School for 6 years before moving to the library.  This is her twelfth year as a librarian and her first at North Mesquite.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French from Texas A&M Commerce and a Masters of Library Science from Texas Womans University.

PASSES:  During the school day (8:30 a.m - 3:45 p.m.), students need an official pink pass from their teacher to come to the library.  This includes the lunch periods, as well.  No pass is required before or after school.

SIGNING IN:  All students entering the library during school hours should sign-in in the notebook at the circulation desk. Student signatures are necessary to determine library statistics and as proof the student was using the library. 

CHECK OUTt:  Students need a picture ID (student ID, driver's license, etc.) to check out a book, and are allowed to check out for a two-week period.  After two weeks, books can be renewed for an additional two weeks.  Audio books and magazines are also available for check out.  We no longer charge fines for overdue materials, but students are not allowed to check out again until overdues are cleared.  Students will be billed for all lost books and materials. 

PRINTING:  Students may print from our computers for the cost of 5 cents per page.  Be careful to click print only once!  Copy machines are 10 cents per page. 

FOOD:  Coffee and hot chocolate are served before school during special weeks, such as Teen Read Week, and at other times during the school year as the librarians choose, but all other food and drink is prohibited.  The price for each drink is $1.00.
