The Oldest Student: How Mary Walker Learned to Read by Rita Lorriane Hubbard and illustrated by Oge Mora
This inspirational story follows the life of Mary Walker, born in 1848 into slavery and freed at age 15. At age 116 she learned to read, proving that with perseverance and dedication you are never too old to learn.
