Opportunities Happen Here

  • Elementary students receive music and art instruction every week from certified music and art specialists.  Enrichment activities and programs include:

    • 3rd-grade students attend a field trip to a theatre performance
    • 4th-grade students attend a Fort Worth Symphony concert (held at a MISD auditorium)
    • 5th-grade students attend an opera performance at Fair Park Music Hall
    • 4th and 5th-grade students have the opportunity to audition for and participate in the Mesquite Children’s Chorus
    • Elementary students also attend regular campus performances and district events, such as the Mesquite ISD Elementary Fine Arts Festival every spring, which offer diverse opportunities to the youngest musicians.

  • Middle school students can add theatre to their arts education, as they have the choice to continue their studies of art and music.

    • Middle School music students participate in All-City Band, Orchestra, and Choir performances.
    • The One-Act Play Festival offers an exciting and competitive outlet for theatre students.
    • A junior version of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event is a judged event
    • Band, choir, and orchestra programs participate in UIL competitions and also perform concerts for families and the community.
  • Mesquite ISD high schools offer outstanding opportunities for students to explore and express their creativity through exceptional programs in band, dance, theater, choir, visual arts, orchestra, and mariachi.

    • Art students compete in the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE).
    • We host ten public art shows throughout the year, highlighting our students' work.
    • Each high school theatre program produces four shows per year, including a musical. These programs provide student musicians the opportunity to collaborate with the theatre, visual arts, and dance departments.
    • Each year, one of the high schools produces the Children's Theatre production that the third graders attend.
    • Opportunities to excel and enjoy music at the high school level are evident with a consistent UIL Sweepstakes-winning band, choir, and orchestra programs.
    • District-wide Mariachi Ensemble “Estrellas de Mesquite” continued to provide performances for the Mesquite Community
