The Animation program of study explores the occupations and educational opportunities associated with designing or creating graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as packaging, displays, or logos. This program of study may also include exploration into designing clothing and accessories, and creating special effects, animation, or other visual images using film, video, computers, or other electronic tools and media, for use in computer games, movies, music videos, and commercials.

Important Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation change that may impact MISD Cosmetology students

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) may now require students to show proof of lawful presence in the United States before they can take the State Cosmetology written and practical licensing exams. Students must pass these exams to earn their Cosmetology Operator License. 

Under the new TDLR requirement, effective Jan. 26, 2026, applicants may be required to provide documents from the approved list before a license can be issued. Applications will stay on hold until the required documents are received. If the correct documents are not provided, the application may be denied according to state rules.

Students in the Interior Design program explore occupational and educational opportunities associated with developing, engineering and designing structures and facilities for the built environment. Students develop skills in measurement, reading technical drawings and drafting through project-based activities. Using knowledge and skills related to interior and exterior environments, students develop design practices that meet the needs of clients as well as use tools, equipment, and computer applications to prepare for employment in the industry. Interior Design projects include drawing 3-dimensional floor plans, creating physical and digital mood boards for client presentations, and developing skills in furniture repair and upholstery.

Mesquite ISD Guaranteed Teaching Contract

Students who complete the Teaching & Training Program of Study (minimum of 4 credits) and earn an overall 3.0 GPA with A’s or B’s in the program courses listed below, are eligible to sign a Mesquite ISD teaching contract at the end of their 12th grade year. The contract is contingent upon earning a bachelor’s degree, completing a traditional student teaching certification program, and being recommended for Texas certification. This contract will be honored by Mesquite ISD for the school year following college graduation, pending Board approval.

The Travel and Lodging program of study focuses on occupational and educational opportunities associated with the marketing and sales of travel and tourism services. This program of study includes planning, directing, and coordinating marketing or business policies and programs. Students will identify potential customers and determine demand and promotional strategies for products and services. The program of study also addresses human resources, financial analysis, and marketing.

The Veterinary Science program of study focuses on the science, research, and business of animals and other living organisms. It teaches CTE learners how to apply biology and life science to real-world life processes of animals and wildlife, either in laboratories or in the field, which could include a veterinary office, a farm or ranch, or any outdoor area harboring animal life. Students may also research and analyze the growth and destruction of species and research or diagnose diseases and injuries of animals.

This program of study may also include exploration into installing, dismantling, or moving machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings.

Students have the opportunity to earn an NCCER Core Certification and NCCER Carpentry Level I Certification.

Students in the Dental Assistant program learn about the dental assisting profession, ethics, communication skills, infection control and hazard management, clinical procedures, clerical functions, concepts in radiological and digital imaging. Students will gain in-depth experience through lab-based practical experiences and the opportunity to intern at a cooperating dental office. This program prepares students for the Registered Dental Assistant X-Ray Certification exam.

Students have the opportunity to earn a Registered Dental Assistant X-Ray Certification.

The EMT program focuses on extensive training for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and training to administer electrocardiograms. Students attend classroom instruction as well as complete clinical hours in an emergency room setting and on ambulance ride-outs. Students will have the opportunity to obtain the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

This program of study includes firefighter safety, building codes, and the necessary physical skills to perform rescues. Students will learn about preparedness, basic fire suppression techniques, basic arson investigation, hazardous material management, and educating the public about fire safety.

In the Medical Assistant program, students learn how to assist physicians with exams, take vital signs, practice aseptic technique, interview patients for medical history, provide documentation, perform clinical procedures, use laboratory techniques, understand medical terminology and become familiar with office procedures. Students will gain valuable knowledge to prepare them to handle both the clinical duties and administrative responsibilities in a variety of healthcare settings. This program prepares students for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam.

In the Pharmacy Technician program, students learn how to read a prescription, how to fill it, and how to work in a pharmacy. Student’s complete labs in class such as preparing lip balm, filling medication boxes, making capsules, compounding medications. Students gain real life experience through internships with local pharmacies. The Pharmacy Technician program prepares the student to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification.

This course also includes important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, the Holter monitor, electrocardiography and echocardiography. This program prepares students for the Phlebotomy Technician exam.

The Therapy Occupations program provides students with an in-depth study of therapeutic careers like physical therapy, occupational therapy, sports injury rehabilitation, etc. It includes information about injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency injury management and administrative functions. • Practicum in Health Science I – Therapy Occupations (A)*
• Practicum in Health Science II – Therapy Occupations (A)*

Students have the opportunity to earn an EKG Technician Certification.
