Excellence in Fine Arts
Mesquite ISD's Fine Arts curriculum gives elementary students a comprehensive glimpse into all of the fine arts and allows secondary students to enjoy extracurricular participation as well as serious study of the arts.
Elementary students receive music and art instruction from certified music and art specialists. Annual Fine Arts field trips include a theatre performance for third graders, a concert by the Fort Worth Symphony for fourth graders, and a fifth grade trip to Fair Park Music Hall to an opera. Regular campus performances and the district events such as the Mesquite ISD Elementary Fine Arts Festival every spring offer diverse opportunities to the youngest musicians.
Middle school students can add theatre to their arts education, as they have the choice to continue their studies of art and music. The One-Act Play Festival provides an exciting, competitive outlet for theatre students. A junior version of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event is a judged event, and band, choir and orchestra programs participate in UIL competitions as well as concerts for parents and the community.
At the high school level, art students compete in the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE). Ten public art shows throughout the year highlight our students' work. Each high school theatre program produces four shows per year, including a musical. Each year, one of the high schools produces the Children's Theatre production that the third graders attend. Opportunities to excel and enjoy music at the high school level are evident with consistent UIL Sweepstakes-winning band, choir, and orchestra programs. Many of our students receive college scholarships because of the achievements in the arts.
