Mesquite ISD Honors Outstanding Educators, Students, and More at November Board Meeting

At the November 10 Mesquite ISD Board meeting, the district celebrated a number of exceptional individuals and partners who continue to make a lasting impact on MISD students and the community.
The special recognitions began with the Apple Corps program, a prestigious honor made possible through a partnership between the Mesquite Education Foundation and Clay Cooley of Mesquite. November’s honorees were Shandra Holland, a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher at Mesquite Academy and Motley Elementary School special education teacher Wendi Swaner. Both educators were celebrated for their commitment to excellence in teaching.
The district also recognized Irais Martinez from Porter Elementary School as the November STAR Para. Sponsored by First Financial Group of America (FFGA), the STAR Para Award highlights the invaluable contributions of paraprofessionals who go above and beyond to support student success.
During the meeting, Atmos Energy was honored as the November Community Partner for their generous support of early literacy and family engagement initiatives in MISD. The company recently donated $10,000 to the district’s Read Play Talk program to support LENA Start, which helps parents of young children build strong early language habits. In addition, Atmos Energy contributed $7,000 earlier this year to fund a new book vending machine at McKenzie Elementary School - helping students foster a love of reading.
