Mesquite ISD Superintendent Dr. Ángel Rivera Named Region 10 Superintendent of the Year

Mesquite ISD is proud to announce that Superintendent Dr. Ángel Rivera has been named the 2026 Region 10 Superintendent of the Year, a prestigious honor recognizing exceptional leadership, commitment to student success, and service to public education.
This recognition honors exemplary school leaders who demonstrate excellence in governance, leadership, school improvement, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement.
Dr. Rivera, who became Mesquite ISD’s superintendent in 2022, has led the district with a clear focus on student-centered leadership, organizational alignment, and a culture grounded in the Mesquite Promise. Under his leadership, Mesquite ISD has strengthened academic outcomes, expanded opportunities for students, and deepened trust and engagement across the community.
During his tenure, Mesquite ISD improved its TEA accountability rating to a “B,” reduced the number of D-rated campuses by more than 50%, expanded student leadership opportunities, and successfully passed a $600 million bond program focused on supporting students and schools across the district.
Dr. Rivera has also prioritized leadership development and long-term organizational improvement while continuing to strengthen relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
The selection process included a competitive review of superintendent nominees from across Region 10. Dr. Rivera was chosen for his demonstrated leadership, commitment to student achievement, and ability to unite and inspire those he serves.
As Region 10 Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Rivera will now advance as a candidate for Texas Superintendent of the Year. All regional winners will be interviewed by the TASB State Selection Committee, which will select five state finalists. The Texas Superintendent of the Year will be announced later this fall.
