Dominiqua Reed’s journey is defined by perseverance, leadership, and a commitment to paying it forward. As a first-generation college graduate, completing her education was always of utmost importance. Although she didn’t have a roadmap to follow, Reed was determined to succeed, and that she did, building strong relationships along the way.
A Foundation for Leadership
Reed earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Administration with a Double Minor in Human Resource Management and Public Relations from the University of Houston, where she developed a passion for community engagement and event management. These skills were initially fostered through experiences she had during undergrad as a member of the first historically Black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She credits pledging at the University of Houston as being one of her proudest moments, along with earning her Bachelor’s Degree.
Creating Meaningful Experiences
Over the course of her professional career, Reed has led the coordination of events and initiatives in the sports industry, including the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the AAU Junior Olympic Games and most recently, serving as a Host City Volunteer Coordinator for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Another career highlight of Reed’s was assisting with the coordination of the “Read to the Final Four” literacy program, which encourages students across the region to develop a love for reading - connecting sports and education.
While building her career, Reed is also in the process of earning an MBA in Marketing from Lamar University, which she will complete later this fall.
Favorite High School Memory
“Taking AVID classes was a highlight in my high school career, but the best memory was watching the Jags win district championships during the 2019-2020 season, a historic moment for the school,” says Reed. “As the basketball manager, watching the team put in work on and off the court was meaningful. They deserved to win.”
Advice from Dominiqua to Current Students
“My biggest piece of advice is this: Don’t wait until you feel ready. Start where you are, use the resources available to you, and trust that each experience is preparing you for the next opportunity,” she adds. “As someone who started as a first-generation college student and built a career working on major events, I can confidently say that hard work, consistency, and a willingness to learn can take you farther than you imagine.
