Planetarium
Each year students visit Mesquite ISD's Richard R. Russell Planetarium to enrich their understanding of earth and space science. Serving Mesquite ISD students and teachers since 1977, the planetarium is located next to Memorial Stadium at the foot of the Communications Tower. The facility was named for the late school board president and physician Dr. Richard Russell.
Our planetarium is equipped with the state-of-the-art, full-dome digital laser projection system that includes the NanoSeam projection surface, making visuals free of shadows and imperfections that detract from the guest experience. Paired with the world’s most advanced planetarium software, Digistar, it provides advanced production capabilities, powerful real-time graphics, a robust astronomy database, and a universe of community created cloud content to educate and inspire global audiences. After visiting the planetarium, our students become inspired to learn more about the Earth and its place in space.
Throughout the school year, the planetarium hosts several events, including free movie nights, that are open to our community.
